If you’re a fan of ranch-flavored dishes or dips, making your own homemade ranch seasoning mix is a game-changer. With just a few simple pantry ingredients, you can create a flavorful seasoning that can be used for dipping sauces, dressings, and more! No need to reach for those store-bought packets that contain preservatives and artificial ingredients. This homemade ranch mix is easy to prepare, and you can adjust it to fit your preferences.

Why Make Homemade Ranch Seasoning?
Creating your own ranch seasoning mix is not only cost-effective but also a great way to customize the flavor. With this mix, you can control the salt content, skip the artificial additives, and make it as garlicky or herby as you like. Plus, it’s a fantastic option for anyone following a gluten-free or dairy-free diet (just adjust the ingredients as needed!).
Ingredients for Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix:
- Dried Chives: This herb gives a subtle onion-like flavor and bright green color to the seasoning mix.
- Dried Dill: Adds a slightly tangy, fresh flavor that complements the richness of the ranch.
- Salt & Pepper: Essential for seasoning and balancing the flavors in the mix.
- Buttermilk Powder: The key ingredient that gives ranch its signature creamy tang. The linked buttermilk powder does not need to be refrigerated when opened.
- Dried Parsley: Adds freshness and a mild herbal taste to the seasoning.
- Garlic Salt & Onion Powder: These are the aromatic powerhouses that give ranch dressing its savory flavor.
How to Make Ranch Seasoning:
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients
Add all the dried herbs and spices (chives, dill, salt, pepper, buttermilk powder, parsley, garlic salt, and onion powder) into a clean 16-ounce jar.
Step 2: Shake or Stir
Seal the jar tightly and shake until the ingredients are evenly mixed. Alternatively, use a spoon to mix the spices if you prefer.
Step 3: Store Your Ranch Mix
Store the homemade ranch seasoning mix in a cool, dry place. It will keep well in your pantry for several months, and you’ll always have it on hand whenever you need it.
How to Use Homemade Ranch Mix:
Ranch Dip:
To make ranch dip, combine 1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning with ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, and ¾ cup of sour cream or Greek yogurt. Stir until smooth and creamy, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes for the flavors to meld. This makes a perfect dip for veggies, chips, or crackers!
Ranch Dressing:
To create ranch dressing, mix 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning with ¼ cup of milk and 1 cup of Greek yogurt. Stir until you reach your desired consistency. If you prefer a thinner dressing, add more milk. Store the dressing in the fridge, and it will last for several days.

Tips for Customizing Your Ranch Seasoning Mix:
- Adjust the Salt & Spices: If you like a more robust flavor, you can increase the amount of garlic salt or onion powder. For more heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
- Use Fresh Herbs when making Dip or Dressing: If you have fresh herbs on hand, feel free to add them to the dressing!
