Chai Simple Syrup
Maria Watkins, LivingPlanetFriendly
Chai syrup is a warm, aromatic sweetener infused with the bold and fragrant spices found in traditional chai tea. Made with cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and other rich spices, this homemade chai syrup is perfect for adding depth to coffee, tea, lattes, and even desserts.
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup filtered water
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- ½ tsp cloves
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, and all spices over medium heat.
Stir vigorously to dissolve the sugar and blend the spices into the liquid.
Once the sugar has fully dissolved, let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors.
Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
Strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer to remove excess spice particles.
Transfer the syrup to a clean, airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
