If you love the deep, cozy flavor of hazelnuts, this homemade hazelnut syrup is the perfect addition to your kitchen. Made with simple ingredients, including raw hazelnuts, sugar, and water, this syrup adds a toasty, nutty sweetness to your favorite beverages and desserts. Whether you stir it into your coffee, drizzle it over pancakes, or use it as a base for cocktails, this syrup will elevate your recipes with its rich and comforting flavor.
This hazelnut syrup recipe is incredibly easy to make and versatile. By toasting the raw hazelnuts, you release their oils and intensify their flavor, which results in a syrup that is both aromatic and rich. The nutty, toasty flavor pairs perfectly with coffee, lattes, hot chocolate, and desserts. Whether you’re adding a touch of sweetness to your morning drink or drizzling it over waffles, this homemade syrup brings a warm, cozy flavor to every dish.

How to Use Hazelnut Syrup
This homemade hazelnut syrup can be used in many ways. Here are some ideas for incorporating it into your everyday meals and treats:
- Coffee & Lattes – Add a splash of hazelnut syrup to your morning coffee or espresso for a nutty, sweet flavor. It also makes an excellent addition to a hazelnut latte.
- Hot Chocolate – Stir into your hot chocolate for a rich, toasty sweetness that will elevate your winter drink.
- Desserts – Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream, or mix it into cakes, frostings, or cookies for an extra layer of flavor.
- Cocktails – Use the syrup in cocktails for a nutty twist on classic drinks like martinis or whiskey-based cocktails.
- Breakfast Foods – Add to oatmeal, granola, or yogurt for a sweet, nutty topping that will complement your morning routine.
Storage & Tips
- To keep your hazelnut syrup fresh, store it in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to one month.
- If you prefer a stronger hazelnut flavor, toast the hazelnuts a little longer, but be sure to stir constantly to avoid burning.
- For added depth of flavor, you can blend the syrup with the toasted hazelnuts for a smoother consistency, although this will alter the texture of the syrup.
Storing Simple Syrups
I prefer to store my simple syrups in mason jars, and use lids like pour lids from Mason Jar Lifestyle. Alternatively, I also like to use these bottles which are aesthetic!
