Refreshing Strawberry Kiwi Syrup for Summer Drinks

Strawberry kiwi simple syrup is a flavorful and vibrant blend that brings a tropical twist to any drink, dessert, or breakfast. The sweetness of juicy strawberries pairs beautifully with the tangy brightness of fresh kiwi, creating a syrup that’s not only visually stunning but also packed with layered flavor. Whether you’re sweetening iced tea, adding flair to cocktails, or drizzling it over pancakes or yogurt, this syrup is a delicious and versatile way to use fresh fruit in your everyday creations.

This homemade syrup is easy to make, requires minimal ingredients, and offers endless possibilities for use. And as a bonus, the leftover fruit pulp can be reused in muffins, smoothies, or as a topping for your favorite breakfast dishes. Let’s walk through how to make this sunny, fruit-forward syrup from scratch.

Ingredients

White Sugar
The sweet base of the syrup, helping to extract the flavors of the fruit and create a smooth, thick consistency.

Filtered Water
Used to dissolve the sugar and serve as the liquid base for the syrup.

Strawberries
These berries bring juicy sweetness, bright red color, and a familiar flavor that balances well with the kiwi’s acidity.

Kiwis
Fresh kiwi adds a tangy, citrus-like zing to the syrup, creating a refreshing contrast to the sweet strawberries.

Directions

  1. Wash your strawberries thoroughly and slice them in half for quicker cooking. Peel your kiwis and chop them into rough chunks.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the white sugar, filtered water, sliced strawberries, and diced kiwis.
  3. Stir occasionally as the mixture begins to heat up, making sure the sugar dissolves completely.
  4. Simmer gently for about 20 minutes, allowing the strawberries and kiwis to break down and infuse the syrup with flavor and color.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
  6. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a clean container, pressing the fruit gently to extract as much liquid as possible.
  7. Store your finished syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.

Ways to Use Strawberry Kiwi Syrup

This sweet and zesty syrup is a game changer in both drinks and dishes. Here are some ideas to inspire your creations:

  • Iced Tea & Lemonade – Add a spoonful for a fruity punch that feels like a tropical vacation.
  • Cocktails & Mocktails – Mix into gin spritzers, rum punches, mojitos, or mocktails for a unique twist.
  • Sparkling Water or Sodas – Stir into plain sparkling water to make your own flavored fizzy drinks.
  • Breakfast Favorites – Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or French toast instead of traditional syrup.
  • Yogurt or Oatmeal – Add a splash to yogurt bowls, overnight oats, or chia pudding for extra flavor.
  • Desserts – Use as a topping for cakes, cheesecakes, or ice cream. It can also be used to moisten sponge cakes.
  • Smoothie Boost – Blend a spoonful into your morning smoothie for added sweetness and fruit flavor.

Save the Fruit Pulp

Once you’ve strained the syrup, don’t throw away the leftover fruit pulp! It’s full of flavor and fiber and can be added to:

  • Muffins or baked goods for added moisture and natural sweetness
  • Smoothies for a fruity kick
  • Overnight oats or yogurt parfaits
  • As a compote-like topping for pancakes or toast

It’s an easy and delicious way to minimize waste and get even more out of your syrup-making.

Tips for Perfect Syrup

  • Use ripe fruit – The sweeter the strawberries and tangier the kiwis, the more flavorful your syrup will be.
  • Strain well – For a silky finish, press the fruit gently with the back of a spoon to get all the juices out.
  • Adjust sweetness – You can reduce or increase the sugar to suit your taste, but keep in mind sugar also helps preserve the syrup.
  • Try freezing – Pour extra syrup into ice cube trays and freeze for single-serve portions you can add to drinks anytime.
  • Experiment with herbs – Add a sprig of mint or basil during the simmering process for a herbal twist.
