Easy Chicory Syrup for Rich, Roasted Flavor

Why Chicory Syrup is a Must-Try for Coffee and Tea Lovers

Chicory root has long been used as a caffeine-free coffee substitute, known for its bold, roasted flavor and subtle nutty sweetness. When transformed into a simple syrup, chicory becomes a smooth and complex sweetener perfect for elevating your drinks and desserts. This homemade chicory simple syrup recipe combines just three ingredients to create a rich, earthy syrup that adds depth to lattes, cold brews, teas, mocktails, and even baked goods.

How to Use Chicory Syrup

Chicory syrup is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Add to hot or iced coffee for a roasted, slightly sweet flavor boost.
  • Stir into tea, especially herbal blends or chai, for a comforting twist.
  • Use in cocktails or mocktails for an earthy complexity.
  • Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal for a rich, nutty finish.
  • Mix into baked goods like cakes, muffins, or quick breads for a unique layer of flavor.

Storage and Tips

Chicory syrup is best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh for up to three weeks. If you’d like a stronger flavor, allow the syrup to steep longer before straining, or slightly increase the amount of ground chicory.

I prefer to store my simple syrups in mason jars, and use lids like pour lids from Mason Jar Lifestyle. Alternatively, I also like to use these bottles which are aesthetic!
